State Officials Discuss Removal of Tornado Debris

DADEVILLE, Ala. (AP) -- Officials from several state agencies
have met to discuss ways of removing tornado debris that remains in
Lake Martin.

The Alabama Emergency Management Agency says the debris is in
the Sandy Creek area of Tallapoosa County.

The Montgomery Advertiser reports that solutions to remove the estimated 100 cubic yards of debris include labor from the Department of Corrections along with additional state agency assets.

About $1.1 million was spent to remove more than 15,000 cubic
yards of debris from the lake last year. Additional debris was
exposed when the lake level was dropped to its winter pool.

Authorities say removal of the newly exposed debris should take
about two weeks, barring bad weather. They say all removal will be
completed before lake levels are restored March 1.
